Just recently I thought of the idea of street signs with GPS coordinates printed below them showing that signs location in relation to the street name or address.

A longitude & latitude location in degrees and seconds showing these locations just under addresses and street sign locations. A (SGPSLID) Stationary #GPS Location ID.

This will help recuers pin point locations via GPS coordinates making it easier and quicker response time.

  1. Can agree with concept though modified. 1) place on the back of street signs as no impact to existing 2) Coordinates shall be US NATIONAL GRID primary and only maybe Lat/Long in NSARC format only of DD-MM.mmm. 3) Also employ QR codes. Note these ideas were already mentioned during review of the USNG sign standard in MN, in 2010. See MN USNG site. See #1 ranked think tank issue about US NATIONAL GRID. USNG is the standard and needs to be used for multiple reasons. See: http://www.fgdc.gov/usng

  2. Good idea without lat/long (USNG is primary map/GPS reference system for ground responders - See NSARC Matrix footnotes: http://www.uscg.mil/hq/cg5/cg534/nsarc/CIS_georef_matrix.doc and

    http://www.uscg.mil/hq/cg5/cg534/nsarc/Georeferencing_info.asp ).

The State of Minnesota has provided such excellent thought and leadership regarding this very idea and with public comment/input over a couple of years have refined a standardized system for marking locations with USNG coordinates: http://www.mngeo.state.mn.us/committee/emprep/download/USNG/USNG_location_marker_proposal.html
