Repurpose UAVs as disaster survey equipment

using commercial and retired UAV aircraft to survey buildings that might contain survivors in a disaster scenario. Quadcopter unmanned aerial vehicles can be used to enter potentially unstable buildings to look for potential trapped people and hazards without risking injury to personnel. These aircraft are easy to use and control, as well as being readily available. These devices can be outfitted with specialized sensors such as low light or passive infrared to provide information on the condition and contents of buildings affected by natural disasters.

  1. UAV use for initial damage assessment should be incorporated into local government emergency response plans as appropriate. FEMA use for damage assessment appears to have been effective.

    1. To be of value in consideration of time it is best that this approach be made like most from a local jurisdiction. Retasking local resources when available is part of the first response.

  2. Not trying to be funny here.....drones can be used for the same purpose. As satellites already do.

The idea here is that the drones can be a local resource.
