  During Damage Often Striking While Iron's Hot Is To Hot

  As an O.J.T. Media Free Lancer (by the way I don't pay much of my own attention to wrongly spelled words not that far off or even formatting,many knowing me after all these O.J.T years would agree on that though does not give much credence to my lower twelve years of education and graduation diploma) but anyway both the title has significance to me as do copyrighted infringement laws and hope this idea is written well ...more »

  As an O.J.T. Media Free Lancer (by the way I don't pay much of my own attention to wrongly spelled words not that far off or even formatting,many knowing me after all these O.J.T years would agree on that though does not give much credence to my lower twelve years of education and graduation diploma) but anyway both the title has significance to me as do copyrighted infringement laws and hope this idea is written well enough as it makes perfect sense because if it does it should make not only just a "whole lot of cents" eventually to businesses even Nationwide/U.S.

  Had to make that difference (U.S.) there because this idea at about the time of H-Sandy sprung from one of Israel but not exactly as is used there (if what was mainlined Media years ago was true and don't know why it wouldn't of been). But what was stated used there were of their preparedness kits and by my own definition was a roll of plastic,roll of duct tape and if civil defense was triggered that an "dirty bomb" had been deployed to quickly make your temporary plastic shelter using the duct tape taped on the walls inside your living quarters and stay put inside that make-shift temporary shelter until the all clear was given.

  With only a few characters left to write in description field the idea from the Israeli one at about the time of H-Sandy why the same couldn't for 1.)be used during Winter power outages,2.)our own and Publics' survival kits,3.)gas camping/fishing equipment for light/heat,4.)rich and poor should appreciate as opposed to Public sheltering,5)less Public sheltering...w/space gone

  More CERT training

  Hold more CERT training courses in the disaster prone areas. Offer it to all groups (schools, churches, clubs). This training does help prepare someone to handle all types of disasters. Let's face it the more that know, even a little something, are better equipped then those knowing nothing at all

  It's necessary to train the community in prevention and preparation for emergencies and disasters. I'm hispanic and I think that our community in generally,especially latin people need to learn about the different phases of a disaster: the before, the during and after.   We need to know the several types of emergency,risks, threats and vulnerabilities,risk management,risk evaluation, emergency plans, needs analisys,evaluation plans,risk maps, crisis management,support groups,first response on line.

  The community always gives the first response to an emergency or a disaster,if the community is prepared, trhis response will be better.

  Therefore,it is necessary to train local emergency committees with the partipation the general community, government and private companies, with churches,students,firefighters,police force, Red Cross and so on.

  Long term territorial reorganization,should be consedered in special cases.

  We can not forget that: God always forgives,sometimes men,nature never.

  Afordable metal shelters 30ft

  I came up with an idea of using HD metal culverts as storm shelters. At this time I only have a rought outline and scetches. The culvert is 30ft long,83 "wide X 57" tall. One end has a metal door, 10 g galv.steel with 6 turn lock handles on the inside. The other end is solid 10 g.steel. There will be 3 metal loops around the culvert that contain a base that can be bolted to the concrete base with four ...more »

  Finding survivors

  Might it be possible to sell or push the idea of using very loud whistles to be handed out minutes before a national disaster (especially at schools) or kept handy by others. Might making finding people alive in rubble 1 step easier when used.

  I would like to propose the creation of an ICS 215E form and process that would assist in the identification of environmental issues and permits required for the work assignments identified upon the ICS 215, Operational Planning Worksheet. This would allow the Environmental Unit in the Planning Section to provide work assignment specific information to be included in the ICS 204, Assignment List.

  I have two ideas from watching the Oklahoma tornado communications problem. There are so many news networks in the area of the disaster and not much in the way of communications. The first idea is using the news vans that normally spread out in a disaster as hubs to set up a wide area network communications during times for emergency management.   I have two ideas from watching the Oklahoma tornado communications problem. There are so many news networks in the area of the disaster and not much in the way of communications. The first idea is using the news vans that normally spread out in a disaster as hubs to set up a wide area network communications during times for emergency management. A sub system could be incorporated to set up in conjunction with the transmission of information over the news networks bandwidth. Bluetooth as well as wireless voice over Internet protocols would be very useful at times like this. My second idea is outfitting helicopters with wireless cellphone data capabilities by working with private companies. Imagine portable cellphone towers during times of disasters in an area like Moore Oklahoma. A helicopter could land almost anywhere and extremely portable in military aircraft to be transported and deployed in long range and stored in two areas like west coast and east coast sectors.

  I am concerned about those who are in their cars as another round of tornados are forecasted. As a long term plan, can there be new ways for drivers to receive emergency information from other drivers or that of officials? There are risks to drivers of deer crossings, ice filled roadways, severe fog, flash flooding, as well as that of tornados.   I am concerned about those who are in their cars as another round of tornados are forecasted. As a long term plan, can there be new ways for drivers to receive emergency information from other drivers or that of officials? There are risks to drivers of deer crossings, ice filled roadways, severe fog, flash flooding, as well as that of tornados. To remedy these, I believe thousands of those informational signs, powered by solar, should be placed dotting along many highways. If a driver sees deer near a roadway, they would call 511 to report which mile marker they saw them. Then people of 511 would forward this information to these signs. This could be done if there is debris in the road ahead or slippery roadways are present ahead due to ice. These signs could direct people to tune into a certain radio station as well, for more information.

  Problem area roadways could be monitored with cameras. Then if a problem were detected by video feed, they would forward this situation to these digital signs as well.

  As it pertains to tornados, the biggest risks are to the ones stuck in their cars. Emergency managers should direct cars to highway ramps before where these tornados are to cross in both directions? These signs would point people to the exit number to take to that of area businesses. These businesses could

  be to a convenient store, large big box store or a school, as examples. Then people would take cover in the food coolers or other strong rooms of these buildings. Bike helmets and blankets would be handed out to people as they take cover..

  First off I think that the 100 and 200 courses should be generic and not have a separate one for healthcare or federal workers, etc. Secondly, I think the IS 700 course should be deleted. The 700 and 100 are closely linked and are redundant. Next, online courses need to be adjusted so as to limit the options for cheating. I have seen many times where students have apparently cheated. Coordination includes, but is not limited to: coordinating between ICS Command and General Staff; coordinating between EOC participants; and obtaining approval from appropriate authorities before information is disseminated. Initial information should include: actions the public should take; impact of the incident; actions the response agencies are taking; actions businesses and industries should take; a summary of the incident; and overall steps to be taken by the government and by citizens to return to normal after the incident.

  300 & 400 revision

  The 300 & 400 classes need healthcare centered versions. Currently everything is Police, Fire and Public Works which doesn't suit healthcare at all. The 100 class has already set the precedent, why not the advanced classes?

  Status information exchange

  During the discussion today several people mentioned the need for a mechanism to allow exchange of data between multiple agencies and across the private sector/governmental agency barrier. We have been working with a system that performs that function in a distributed and secure way. It has been used successfully in multiple states across the country.   We are currently engaged with 2 Worldwide Pharmaceutical Organizations to focus on solutions to this ongoing challenge for our Rural Residents. We have proven answers to this challenging condition for so many Rural Communities. This is critical since, today, we have two Americas insofar as healthcare is concerned. The "Golden Hour" which is so critical to life is vastly diminished in a rural setting and life itself is placed at a distinct disadvantage. By utilizing a network of volunteer individuals and agencies in a matrix of designated graduated levels of need beneficial remedies can be effected. Just as not all Emergency Room visits are not actually "Emergencies" not all situations require trauma care. By early identification effective treatment can be obtained through rapid response in identification of appropriate local center of care (Church, school, First Responder site, etc.) for successful outcomes.

  While we certainly welcome Federal participation and collaborative effort we do not wish to become involved in meanngless red tape that would delay the progressive actions currently underway.

  For decades our Group has confronted this critical issue in Florida and it is well known in all Rural Communities throughout our Nation. Craig Fugate is well aware of the instance of 4 Hurricanes cris-crossing the section of Polk County Florida in one short period. The community was ill prepared to handle such. The same is true on a daily basis for ordinary Healthcare access and delivery in our Rural Communities. There is no "Golden Hour" for heart attack or stroke victims in our Rural Communities.

  Elder Care Advocacy of Florida is working with 2 Global Pharmaceutical firms to address this issue.

  This falls under the National Framework under the provisions of Presidential Policy Directive 8 and could benefit our Nation in this effort.

  Does FEMA have any interest in such? If not we shall continue to work with our Pharmaceutical organizations in the development in solutions for this critical need in our Nation today. We have been effective on a smaller scale in a local Florida area and have proven viability for such. While we would welcome Federal participation and collaboration we do not wish to become involved in a process that will delay implementation of the vital need for action.

  Safety tips for new college students

  As more crime places and when they occur are being developed in real time, can they forward these statistics to college students? I have a daughter going to college across state lines and we have no idea to suggest which streets to avoid. Can they forward these statistics to college students' social school accounts? Perhaps safety experts could create "street smarts" videos to be forwarded to these social accounts, as ...more »

  As more crime places and when they occur are being developed in real time, can they forward these statistics to college students? I have a daughter going to college across state lines and we have no idea to suggest which streets to avoid. Can they forward these statistics to college students' social school accounts? Perhaps safety experts could create "street smarts" videos to be forwarded to these social accounts, as well. As part of new students orientation, a power point presentation could play these safety points videos, so students would know where and when to avoid certain streets.

  Including Private Sector in Mgmt (Command Org)

  If NIMS is going to be a qualification based system retirees, as well as others who have earned the qualification should be capable of and perform in the Command roles on an Incident. The USCG (OPA-90) has already adopted this to include the responsible in the Command structure (Unified Command) on an incident. It seems short sighted that people who are not currently in a government organization cannot perform in a Command ...more »

  Can EPI Mutual Aid Help?

  There is a discussion in another section of this FEMA idea tool on enhancing the role of emergency public information during response to communicate not only warnings, but request to the public throughout the response phase to do or not do certain things that would help save more lives and property and bring the incident to a better and faster outcome. Staffing in an EOC is always an issue. With electronic tools, a virtual ...more »

  There is a discussion in another section of this FEMA idea tool on enhancing the role of emergency public information during response to communicate not only warnings, but request to the public throughout the response phase to do or not do certain things that would help save more lives and property and bring the incident to a better and faster outcome. Staffing in an EOC is always an issue. With electronic tools, a virtual Joint Information Center (JIC) could be created as a resource in a area outside of the area impacted by the emergency. The virtual JIC model for this can be likened to a media newsroom where information is shared, processed, approved by management, and released over one or more of the growing number of information systems as appropriate. From a 90 character WEA cell phone message to full blown audio and video for broadcast TV and radio, might not this be added to the range of mutual aid resources within NiMS?

  Gridded weather data

  I think that there should be gridded weather data that shows accumulated scores within 1 KM grids that can be used with other data.
