  Television is alot of things but rarely is tv a learning tool that is fun educational well made captivating and able to pull in viewers,and if it is the idea of it being honest truthful or in anyway non fiction seems to be lost.   To establish a link with GPS units in vehicles, handheld devices and cell phones, via satellite to set up the following: 1) Immediate location of any civilian personnel with activated device 2) Provide immediate real time data and alerts to those affected by the event, with evacuation routes provided on the units screen.   This would be an override system, that could immediately activate on the phone, tablet or GPS unit, even turning it on if the unit is off. An alarm would activate to notify the holder of the device. Also an application could be placed on I-phones, tablets or GPS units with a specific link to FEMA to activate an emergency beacon for rescue personnel. This would be satellite driven, in the event 911 or cellular /wireless service is not available. Finally, this could provide a real time interactive map to emergency personnel of all effected in the crisis zones and locations.

  Rescue Airboats solving a perplexing problem.

  The Gap: Water Rescue Teams (WRT) are utilizing watercrafts (i.e. inflatables and jon-boats) that are not adequate to protect the WRT from the dangers of a flood and/or hurricane environment and are too unstable and fragile to safely transport multiple victims during said events.   The Gap:

  Water Rescue Teams (WRT) are utilizing watercrafts (i.e. inflatables and jon-boats) that are not adequate to protect the WRT from the dangers of a flood and/or hurricane environment and are too unstable and fragile to safely transport multiple victims during said events. As such, the watercrafts are subject to puncture/tearing/sinking, the outboard engines/props are easily damaged due to the debris in the water and the Rescue Personnel (RP) are subject to repeated contact with or in the contaminated water.

  The Idea:

  To support the WRT and USAR Teams by utilizing purpose designed/built Rescue Airboats AND specially trained operators that will allow said teams to SAFELY and QUICKLY conduct flood and hurricane rescues while keeping ALL personnel out of the contaminated water and providing a safe/stable platform for multiple or mass-victim rescues.

  The Solution:

  To create Flood/Hurricane Airboat SAR Team(s) utilizing purpose designed/built Rescue Airboats AND specially trained Operators that (by being pre-deployed) will work WITH the local WRT and USAR Teams to conduct Swiftwater, Flood and Hurricane Rescues. By providing said teams with the Rescue Airboats/Operators, the safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of said teams will be increased far above what has been generally accepted as the “norm” for water rescue operations. Also, said watercraft can easily support fire suppression operations during these same events.

Media Free Lancer (by the way I don't pay much of my own attention to wrongly spelled words not that far off or even formatting,many knowing me after all these O.J.T years would agree on that though does not give much credence to my lower twelve years of education and graduation diploma) but anyway both the title has significance to me as do copyrighted infringement laws and hope this idea is written well ...more »

  Had to make that difference (U.S.) there because this idea at about the time of H-Sandy sprung from one of Israel but not exactly as is used there (if what was mainlined Media years ago was true and don't know why it wouldn't of been). But what was stated used there were of their preparedness kits and by my own definition was a roll of plastic,roll of duct tape and if civil defense was triggered that an "dirty bomb" had been deployed to quickly make your temporary plastic shelter using the duct tape taped on the walls inside your living quarters and stay put inside that make-shift temporary shelter until the all clear was given.

  With only a few characters left to write in description field the idea from the Israeli one at about the time of H-Sandy why the same couldn't for 1.)be used during Winter power outages,2.)our own and Publics' survival kits,3.)gas camping/fishing equipment for light/heat,4.)rich and poor should appreciate as opposed to Public sheltering,5)less Public sheltering...w/space gone

  More CERT training

  Hold more CERT training courses in the disaster prone areas. Offer it to all groups (schools, churches, clubs). This training does help prepare someone to handle all types of disasters. Let's face it the more that know, even a little something, are better equipped then those knowing nothing at all

  We need to know the several types of emergency,risks, threats and vulnerabilities,risk management,risk evaluation, emergency plans, needs analisys,evaluation plans,risk maps, crisis management,support groups,first response on line.

  The community always gives the first response to an emergency or a disaster,if the community is prepared, trhis response will be better.

  Therefore,it is necessary to train local emergency committees with the partipation the general community, government and private companies, with churches,students,firefighters,police force, Red Cross and so on.

  Long term territorial reorganization,should be consedered in special cases.

  We can not forget that: God always forgives,sometimes men,nature never.

  Afordable metal shelters 30ft

  I came up with an idea of using HD metal culverts as storm shelters. At this time I only have a rought outline and scetches. The culvert is 30ft long,83 "wide X 57" tall. One end has a metal door, 10 g galv.steel with 6 turn lock handles on the inside. The other end is solid 10 g.steel. There will be 3 metal loops around the culvert that contain a base that can be bolted to the concrete base with four ...more »

  Finding survivors

  Might it be possible to sell or push the idea of using very loud whistles to be handed out minutes before a national disaster (especially at schools) or kept handy by others. Might making finding people alive in rubble 1 step easier when used.

  As more crime places and when they occur are being developed in real time, can they forward these statistics to college students? I have a daughter going to college across state lines and we have no idea to suggest which streets to avoid. Can they forward these statistics to college students' social school accounts?   Animal care in disasters

  Our area has had an animal disaster plan in place for nearly 20 years. Why not work off of what was started rather than invent another wheel? I know not all communities have plans in place, but help us to enhance ours and share it with others. And, if you want these great plans to work, you need to make it easier to apply for and receive funding.

  Create a FEMA Action Tank following the FEMA Think Tank

  Create a FEMA Action Tank which would list all the actions taken so far after the ideas were submitted in the FEMA Think Tank. If there have been too few ideas realized, then how do we actually make them happen? Maybe we need a type of web software for FEMA to do this like a bulletin board with timelines where people could post their thoughts that became actions and FEMA could also post all the actions that took place.   Single federal inspection or inspection team.

  During Hurricane Sandy I observed confusion over the number of home inspections each impacted disaster survivor had to receive. I began to research and place a cost on the number of federal inspections each individual was receiving and believe it would be much cheaper to have one inspector or a single inspection team that provides overall case management.   During Hurricane Sandy I observed confusion over the number of home inspections each impacted disaster survivor had to receive. I began to research and place a cost on the number of federal inspections each individual was receiving and believe it would be much cheaper to have one inspector or a single inspection team that provides overall case management. Currently and individual survivor could see an inspectors for IA, SBA, Flood Insurance, as well as CR team visits. If FEMA is managing substantial damage estimation a survivor could also see another FEMA funded substantial damage inspector. By linking our survivor assistance systems and having a single well trained inspector we could reduce post event inspection costs, provide single inspections, and overall provide better customer service to our survivors.

  Submit Ideas Before and After Work

  Ignore this unless you're writing hundreds, even thousands of comments on Idea boards during work hours; is that what your employers pay you to do? C'mon! Some of these Idea boards are a part time job; limit the number of entries and comments per person, and the lenght of each submission, i.e., no more than 1000 characters, so the good Ideas do bubble up to the top!

  Too much talk... not enough action!

  Keep these Idea posts down to 1000 characters or less; that's one of the problems with Idea boards, too many prolific writers. Too much talk... not enough action!
