I would like to see more stories in the media about coordinated storm clean-up and rescue. I want to see what government agency plans are and information about where to go and what relief is happening, Recommend that the Pesident stops all campaigning and is shown more involved with storm efforts, this will help with re-elction.

My idea is not new, just pushing it along. In a time of crisis you have to pool together the ideas of everyone to come to the easiest solution for a problem that can help everyone. There are a number of companies around the world that create modular homes from shipping containers. These are extremely safe homes that can withstand hurricanes and tsunamis as well as affordable for single family units (approx $30,000 - $40,000 retail) fully livable on delivery with access to public utilities. You can set up locations and offer families shelter in a city structure (http://www.containercity.com/) in a matter of days or weeks, not months. These units can then be relocated as necessary because they are made to move as needed.I really hope that someone in your office takes the time to investigate this idea.
Keep up the great work!

Can churches or the Salvation Army set up outdoor masses to bring some sort of routine to people? There could be inspirational songs to sing and live music to help sooth hurting hearts.
A chorus of the youth could be organized. They could practice singing songs of hope and inspiration on a daily basis. Then they could sing these songs at emergency shelters, among other places.
There is something soothing about the sounds of bells. Perhaps, the Salvation Army could organize talented bell ringers at places like the emergency shelters, as well. Perhaps these bells could be rung with the choruses. This may help cheer up hurting hearts.
There are many quotes about courage, inspiration and HOPE. For example, "Hope never abandons you, you abandon it." Another, "while there's life, there's hope." Can the Salvation Army produce and distribute inspirational quoted shirts for both kids and adults alike? Can some EMTs wear a few of these newly printed shirts that have these quotes on them. Perhaps, these shirts could be made by the youth. A generator could be brought in to do this. And this same generator could help heat that same building these kids are practicing music. Are there other ideas out there to bring comfort to those who are hurting? Or am I missing something?

Please work to capture these for use by National Guard in event of natural disasters such as Sandy. Perhaps the Federal Govnt could hire the boats and/or driver tour guides to assist in areas like Hoboken, NJ. These vehicles are sturdy, amphibious, and have unique capabilities...once retired, they still have a useful life and role to play.

Units can be stacked and shipped on cargo carriers for international use. These units would be very durable and reusable for many years to come. Better quality construction and durability then trailers. My application is under Troy Burleigh ( tburleigh777 ) . Thank you for your Time

Hello All!
We are a small rural community in a greater, area of smaller communities. Wildfires and earthquakes are our major concerns. We have had our CERT team in operation since 2003. We have had about 500 citizens graduate our CERT academy. Yet, looking at the numbers, in 10 years of community activities, we have less than TWO PERCENT of the local population CERTified! It is my view that e-v-e-r-y-o-n-e in the community should know about CERT. You may not wish to join us or even agree with us, but when the next disaster occurs, NO ONE will be able to honestly say, "I didn't know..." or "I wasn't aware", or "No one told me."
We have a dozen or so community functions that CERT attends each year. We have CERT literature available and a sign up sheet for those interested. We have Spanish literature, for those who prefer to use it instead.
Each October, our local fire stations [four in number] have open houses which we also attend. Hand out literature and sign up sheets are there for those interested.
Folks graduate from our CERT academy and then we never see them again. We contact them, informing them of local drills, classes [CPR, Haz-Mat, county drills etc.] and get little, if any response.
It's a little daunting and occasionally disheartening to see the same 8 "staff member" faces and 20 "regular member" faces at meetings and functions these past few years.
How do YOU folks motivate and KEEP your CERT members involved to take the additional classes?
Many thanks!
Joaquin Tall

In actuality, I had a dream where this occurred. It then got me wondering whether or not we had a controlled water linking system available in the U.S. A dream is just a dream. But, the thought of being prepared ahead of time is a very good idea. You need to look at all of the aquifers available in the United States and find a way to link each aquifer in such a controlled format underground, etc.. that it would enable water to be safely transferred from one aquifer location to another. I am speaking of some sort of underground linking system created and monitored so that people would not have to go without water on a Statewide level if an emergency occurred. This definitely would be a system controlled city by city. But, at least water would be available to sustain communities in time of need. Get on it now people!

I am the first to agree that flashlights and light sticks are the preferred form of emergency lighting. The difficulty with most homes and emergency kits is their ability to provide lighting on a long term basis -24/48/72 hours or 10 days. This is why Kevin’s Kandles are an ideal tool for emergency and disaster preparedness.
- 15,000+ accidental candle fires are reported in the USA each year. Kevin's Kandles greatly reduce this risk for your family and your community. They help eliminate the "Stupid Factor" when people run out of batteries during extended power failures and "get creative" with their illumination.
In North America, 4% of residential fires are candle related. A majority of the deaths and injuries occur during power failures and in houses where the electricity has been disconnected.
- Again, this is why Kevin’s Kandles are such a great tool for Emergency and Disaster Preparedness. They are Much Safer than traditional candles, Convenient, Inexpensive and Environmentally Friendly. If a Kevin's Kandle is left unattended - it will go out; if it is tipped over - it will go out!
-Each pack of Kevin's Kandles manufactured in the USA, contains 100 - 10 hour candles. A carton measures 15 x 15 x 20”, weighs 25 pounds and contains 500 packs of Kevin’s Kandles. That’s a potential of 50,000 - 10 hour candles!

After reading a case study on Special Needs Evacuations from Gulf Coast Hurricanes, written by an associate professor at the Harvard Kennedy School, I was surprised by the difficulty organizing and sharing mass paperwork in tracking family members with special needs. I would like to recommend looking into OCR Software and various forms of secure file-sharing technology. OCR Software uses “intelligent character recognition,” and patients could have their paperwork scanned into a computer or Ipad, the document would instantly be converted into a text form, and key words could be used to sort the document into files. The paperwork would immediately be shared to tech-support staff at any location in the country who can sort the files using key words into folders describing the patients’ locations, severity of need, and family members could be grouped together. All of these files could be shared to a “help desk,” at a disaster center, where workers could use the organized folders and key words to help families quickly locate and track their loved ones with special needs. I am not very proficient with technology, but if you are interested, I can call some experts and do more research on this topic. I plan to call in to the Think Tank on October 30th and could go into more detail then.

Community Involvement and buy-in is key to recovery. Citizens want to have a voice. After you listen, present the plan clearly and gain buy-in from every stakeholder involved as the key to moving forward.

Last fall, the Isaiah Fund co-hosted a consultation with the Initiative for Responsible Investment, which is housed at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government. The Consultation brought together representatives from the disaster response community (including FEMA) and the community investment community. An important discussion centered around the continuous and cyclical relationship between disaster prevention, preparedness, relief, recovery, and long-term rebuilding, and the need for the agencies and organizations working on each segment of the cycle, to collaborate and plan together for best community outcomes when a disaster hits.
The Consultation was an important first step. The disaster response and community investment fields need to continue to collaborate to ensure that communities, particularly low-income and underserved communities, receive continuous and coordinated services and resources for disaster planning, disaster response, and rebuilding.

Nevalite, a 100% natural Mineral Healing Clay which purifies water, absorbs radiation, heals and disinfects wounds and internal disorders. Nevalite is the same type of pure white Montmorillonite clay that has actually been discovered on ancient sea going vessels. The ships doctors had it sealed in containers and it was used to purify water and to treat dysentery and other internal disorders. It was also put on open wounds which would consequently heal with no infection or scar.
Nevalite binds toxins and promotes healing. There are very few substances that the body can absorb and mostly they are very harmful like gasoline, turpentine, etc... The body does absorb Nevalite right through the skin. The blood rushes up to the surface to get the much needed minerals. At the same time, the minerals are absorbing any toxins that the body is trying to expel. This is why Nevalite heals so quickly, and without infection. The clay suffocates parasites and kills bacteria. An absolute must for a complete emergency kit!

put various multi task people within various areas of different projects & agencies & departments that can get the required results that you require on a major scale they can be drafted in from recruitment centres & other places that has a high attendance rate for people that can do more than one think effectively without error but with a spirit of sheer excellence throughout
44 CFR 206.205 (b) Large Project..."each large project shall be submitted as soon as practicable after the subgrantee has completed the approved work and requested payment". I would suggest that FEMA define "as soon as practicable" as 90-days. This would help facilitate closeout of large projects.

People are turning in their iPhones because of what “Good” is doing to our email, calendar, contact, and document control systems. Seems-to-me that we have taken a superior piece of equipment and dumbed it down; I’m surprised that Apple even allows "Good" to be in their store.
I went to the App Store today – out of 70 ratings, “Good” gets 42 one-star ratings for the current version; many reviewers were asking for either zero stars of negative stars.
