The Ohio Safe Room Rebate Program provides a rebate for the purchase and construction of tornado safe rooms for Ohio homeowners selected for the program. Homeowners that are selected for the program are eligible for a rebate of 75% of the cost to construct a safe room, up to a maximum of $4,875.
Funding for this Program was made available thru FEMA Hazard Mitigation Assistance (HMA) grant programs. The Ohio Emergency Management Agency plans to continue offering this program on an annual basis, contingent upon federal grant funding. Since 2014, the State of Ohio has been able to aid in funding over 129 safe rooms statewide. As of August 2017, up to 233 more safe rooms are in the process of being constructed thru this Safe Room Rebate Program.
A Pre-Disaster Mitigation grant was awarded in 2015 which aided in the safe room rebate program.
